The large circular area in the center of Sierra Madre Villages is being restored by the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration as a vernal pool. It will hold water seasonally from winter to spring and supports a unique suite of plants and invertebrates. The periphery of the pool will be planted with native grassland and coastal sage scrub plant species.

During this time of giving, our talented and caring staff definitely steps up. H&RS staff members donate time, money and items in various ways to campus organizations, schools and local charities.
This year, staff members bought gifts for 52 kids in the IV Youth Project. A big thanks to Kim Dwire, Business & Financial Planning, for coordinating this effort.
Creating a Waffle Masterpiece
Learn the Proper Technique of Putting Gaucho Pride on your Plate
At every breakfast and brunch, Gaucho pride is savored by our residents and served on their plate; UCSB waffles have a special place in our tummies and hearts. This fall, Dining premiered a video tutorial on YouTube which demonstrates step-by-step how to make a UCSB waffle, using the logoed waffle irons in the Dining Commons. The video was shared on social media and was featured on DigiKnow to show residents how to make a waffle masterpiece.

Kudos to two of our talented and caring RAs, Courtney Carlson and Roger Gonzalez, for winning a Top 10 award at the student leadership conference Central RAP on November 21. There were 400+
attendees and approximately 55 presentations at the conference.
