UCSB Participates in the Great American Smokeout

Did you know that all UC locations and properties became tobacco and smoke free on January 1, 2014? Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE) played a big role in this year’s Great American Smoke Out (GASO) at UCSB on Thursday, November 17th. Our marketing and communications team designed and student-tested four engaging posters with messages relating to cigarette butt litter, second-hand smoke and asthma, money spent on tobacco, and its negative effects on endurance.

Just a few days before the start of the Fall Quarter, Family Student Housing had its Welcome Event, the Emergency Preparedness and Community Resource Fair. This community-wide event is held each year at Storke Family Housing, and is open to residents from both of our family student complexes, Storke and West Campus.

Our Talented & Caring Residential Dining Storekeepers

By 6:00am each morning, our four Storekeepers are ready to receive the goods that will be used to prepare our daily meals. With over 84 years of combined service, Doug Wishon, Eric Veal, Richard Lindsten and Ruben Ramirez are the front line for the food delivery and are responsible for receiving all produce and products, counting goods and storing all items for their unit.

Creating and Sustaining Comprehensive Institutional Change

The 29th annual National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE) was held in San Francisco on May 31 – June 4, 2016. Over 3,500 delegates from around the nation attended the conference. The conference is sponsored each year by the University of Oklahoma, and provides an annual place for the gathering of leaders from across our nation and territories who explore critical issues of racial equity and indigenous equity for students, staff and faculty in higher education.
