Housing's Growth Spurt
H&RS continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
H&RS continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
Hello! My name is Matilda Mead and I am beyond excited to be serving as Residence Halls Association (RHA) President for the 2015-16 academic year!
Conservation.
As the West, and especially California, faces its 4th year of drought, conservation plays a vital part of surviving the historically low rain fall and snow pack. UC President Janet Napolitano requested all campuses to reduce potable water consumption 20% by 2020. Governor Jerry Brown has mandated a 25% reduction for urban water users starting in June compared to 2013. All of these are unprecedented actions, and UCSB and Housing & Residential Services are incorporating even more water conservation measures.
Micro-articles about Our Staff & Communities
The Special Olympics World Games 2015 were held in Los Angeles July 25 – August 2. Goleta hosted athletes from Bhutan, Panama, and Qatar, and they stayed in Manzanita Village. Angelica Diaz, Conference Services, invited members of the campus community to show our Gaucho spirit and cheer on the athletes as they left UCSB on their way to Los Angeles to compete. Olé! Olé! Olé!
HDAE Staff on the Move
The San Miguel Stage Mural Project is a collaborative effort.
The Homefront staff would like to wish our longtime friend and newsletter photographer, Rick Kelly, all the best as he quietly moves on to retirement.
Rick took over the photog duties when Mike Conaway left and proceeded to snap images for just about everything from holiday parties to peoples' pets. He’s responsible for that gorgeous morning image of Santa Catalina, a stunning panorama from Storke Tower, and an early morning sunrise over Manzanita… to name only a few. Enjoy the golden years Rick – you’ve earned them.
On Our Way to 2020
Meeting the needs of our hungry dining patrons, Residential Dining Services launched a new mobile- and user-friendly site that displays interactive menus. By saving the address on any smartphone or selecting the ‘Interactive Menu’ link from dining’s ‘Menus’ page, diners will have a quicker and more effective way to view menu options. Menus can be viewed for each of the dining commons up to a week in advance or can be viewed by the day’s meal periods.
Construction of the San Joaquin Apartments is in full swing, and the progress is fun to watch for kids of all ages.
