Housing Elves Making a Difference in the Local Community

During this time of giving, our talented and caring staff definitely steps up. H&RS staff members donate time, money and items in various ways to campus organizations, schools and local charities.

This year, staff members bought gifts for 52 kids in the IV Youth Project. A big thanks to Kim Dwire, Business & Financial Planning, for coordinating this effort.

Santa Willie took time out of his busy schedule to visit the kids at Isla Vista Elementary School during the Professional Women’s Association Toy Drive, while Cathe Hedrick of Residential & Community Living coordinated the collection of tasty goodies for the event.

Housing staff also collected over $100 for Isla Vista Elementary School's “Bucks for Books” program. Staff donated money at the Town Hall Cheer and received a YES voucher, and Chris Johnson, Residential Operations, presented the check to IV School.

At the Town Hall Cheer, we also collected 57 non-perishable food items and $97 for the Associated Students Foodbank, which is located in the UCen and managed by 6 students and manager, Tuyen Nguyen. Tuyen said that up to 25 students per hour can come by the ASFB. They provide nutrition and uncooked food, and also work to teach students how to make healthy, inexpensive meals.

Kudos to all the Housing elves involved and Happy Holidays to everyone!
