The Carrillo Laundry Room Gets a Makeover

Can't make it to the Channel Islands? No worries! Go visit the Carrillo Laundry Room, home to a new land and ocean animal themed mural created by our very own talented and caring graphic artist, Eric Zobel. Read on to learn in the artist's own words how this whimsical mural came to life.

Editor's Note: In one of our lively Homefront brainstorming meetings, Mark Rousseau told us about Residential Dining Services sending their employees' work shoes to Africa to be reused, and Danielle Reed regaled us with charming stories of her time spent in Africa. Tell Us What You Think! Take the Employee Engagement Survey.

In late July we will be launching an employee engagement survey in conjunction with the Human Resources consulting firm McLean & Co. We’ll be asking questions based upon what we’re doing well, as well as soliciting ideas for improvements. Everyone will get a unique code to respond to the survey (which is available in English and Spanish), and all responses will be confidential with the McLean group, who will then provide us overviews by area. Some of the sample open-ended questions we’ll be asking include:

Ending Violence One Green Dot at a Time

This past Winter Quarter interns of the Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) program launched a Green Dot awareness campaign on campus. Green Dot is about engaging students in bystander intervention to create a safe campus environment through the power of community.

Green dot provides a few methods of intervention, called the 3 D’s, which include:

• Direct: this is a very confrontational approach. Directly asking the potential victim if they are alright.
