The West Campus Family Student Housing Playground Gets a Renovation

Construction at the West Campus Family Student Housing Playground is done! The project began on April 28, and families and Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises staff gathered together to break-ground and celebrate kicking off construction. Our general contractor, Arroyo Seco Construction, provided operating equipment for the children to get a close-up look.

Or maybe you recently walked by the Gaucho Certified Farmers Market and heard a shout of “Come get your worm Valentines!” Associated Students Department of Public Worms (DPW) is behind all of this!

RHA Wins Highest Honor at PACURH Regional Business Conference

The UCSB Residential Housing Association (RHA) was awarded the title of ‘School of the Year’ at the PACURH (Pacific Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls) Regional Business Conference. This is one of the highest honors that an institution can be awarded! It recognizes the outstanding achievements by RHA and housing, as well as contributions on the regional and national level.

Cliff Erosion Displaces Isla Vista Residents

Erosion on the Isla Vista bluffs has displaced dozens of UCSB and SBCC students living on Del Playa Drive in the winter of 2017. On January 22nd, 28 students were displaced after part of their communal backyard fell into the ocean during a heavy storm and their unit was deemed unsafe. A large storm on February 17th caused concern for the structural integrity of an additional complex on Del Playa, leading to 21 more students looking for new housing.

HDAE's new Health Advocate Assistant

Say “hi” to Leslie Ramirez, our new Health Advocate Assistant, the next time you see her in your area. She travels to all of our various communities making sure that all of our AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are working properly and are up to date. You might also see her looking for chemicals and updating our SDS (Safety Data Sheets). Soon she will be our safe driver instructor.

French Fries and Cut Grass

A Sustainable Solution: From Cooking our Food to Fueling our Tractors

What do French fries and cut grass have in common? Here’s a hint: think in “cycles”. Some of you may think that gardeners can take their grass clippings and compost them. Then, add the compost to the garden to help grow potatoes and thus french fries. That would be close and get some extra credit, but Housing and UCen Dining have put a new spin on this age old conundrum.
