More Support for Employees on Family Leave

UC’s Pay for Family Care and Bonding Program Expands

The University of California introduced the Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) leave in 2021, providing up to eight weeks of partially paid income during an approved leave for qualifying family care reasons. That commitment to family-friendly policies expanded in 2023 when PFCB was expanded to replace 100% of eligible earnings for staff taking these family leave types effective January 1, 2023.

Campus Store employees were recently trained on how to properly use a fire extinguisher. UCSB instructors educated them on the basics of fire extinguisher locations on campus, common fire hazards, proper procedures, safe evacuation routes, and more. They now have the confidence to react quickly during an emergency, thus protecting students and staff on campus. Stay calm and think fast HDAE Team!

Making the Future Bright with Solar Power

Solar Energy at Work in HDAE 

Solar energy is used extensively at UCSB in all three forms: photoelectric panels (PV) which produce electricity, solar thermal panels which produce hot water, and solar pool systems which heat pools. PV panels are the most prevalent and are above the parking structures, parking lots and on roof tops. The largest is shown below in Lot 38. This produces enough electricity for approximately 400 homes (1,931 kW).
