COVID-19: Two Years Later
As we prepare for the last quarter of the 2021-2022 academic year, I want to applaud the work that everyone has accomplished while facing immense challenges. I also want to breathe a sigh of relief due to COVID positivity numbers dropping across the country, including Santa Barbara County and here on campus, and the shifts taking place at this time – shifts that are moving away from public health mandates toward public health recommendations.

Micro-articles about Our Staff & Communities
Sofa Swap at Sierra Madre
Last summer, Residential Operations staff made an effort to replace damaged furniture in anticipation of residents returning to campus in Fall 2021. Our staff discovered that 70 of the sofas in Sierra Madre Villages were showing signs of damage, specifically the "pleather" fabric was experiencing significant peeling and tearing. Typically, soft furniture should last up to ten years, but these sofas were already in poor condition after five to six years.

Creating an Environment Where Everyone Can Succeed
A core value of Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE) is promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. HDAE puts this value into action through our communications and by actively engaging with the campus community. Included below are some of the ways in which HDAE has initiated and supported working toward encompassing and embracing these important principles.
R&CL Launches Staff Newsletter
Feeling the effects of the instabilities and heightened temperament of the world, the Residential & Community Living (R&CL) team created a Call to Action (C2A) group. All R&CL staff was invited to join – managers, the UCHS team, the powerful administrative team, our patient complex coordinators and resident directors – anyone interested in meeting to express themselves or coordinate ideas to help each other, well, to quite frankly, feel better and to heal.
