CONGRATULATIONS!

UC Santa Barbara was named among top-performing institutions in the 2018 Sustainable Campus Index. Specifically, UCSB was cited for its impressive strides in green building, waste reduction and sustainable investing. We are proud of our earth- and dining-friendly practices, and in our role of supporting UCSB on its way to becoming a sustainable community!…The MarCom Team (Julie Levangie, Mandy Yoshida & Eric Zobel) were recently recognized by ACUHO-I during their annual marketing awards! Tenaya Market & Eatery won 2nd place for overall campaign, and the San Rafael Art Project won 2nd place in the specialty/other category…The Club & Guest House was recognized with a Best Renovation award from Unique Venues and will be highlighted in their Best of Unique Venues Magazine - Winter Edition…The Summit Café recently received a Green Business Certification from the County of Santa Barbara…San Joaquin Villages received a AIA Los Angeles Residential Architecture Award…Kip Bates was part of a team recognized with The Larry Sautter Golden Award for 'Cyber Strong UC: Year-Round Information Security Awareness Campaigns', and Denise Saludares, Gary Scott & Mike Smith were part of a team recognized with a Silver Award for 'Enhanced Data and Service Sharing through Innovative Campus Collaboration'. You can learn more about these IT awards on the UCIT blog site...and Senior Executive Chef Dusty Cooper and Production Manager Ozzie Carrara competed in the Chef Net Culinary Challenge and both won bronze medals. Congratulations one and all!

         

The Club & Guest House was featured as a fine-dining find in SB Seasons Magazine's Summer 2018 issue. Check out their mouth watering menu and you'll understand why!
                                         

Brian Graham and Danielle Kemp presented at the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC) about Portola, which is one of the first stand-alone dining facilities in the state to achieve LEED New Construction Platinum certification. Visitors also took a tour of the 36,400 GSF facility, including the six separate commercial kitchen platforms that serve up to 800 guests.

  

Residential Operations staff members have recently completed some WOW! Projects. Check out the new string lights at the San Miguel patio; new surf racks at Anacapa, San Miguel, San Nicolas, & Santa Rosa; and our Grounds Team, under the great leadership of Manuel Herrera, planted a lemon tree at San Clemente Villages at the request of a resident via the iGen pageThe HDAE Grounds Team also recently installed a plaque at the Anacapa Succulent Garden, a collaboration with students. The plaque reads “Welcome to the Anacapa Garden. For the enjoyment of the residents of Anacapa Hall. Planted by the residents of 2017-2018.”

          

Welcome to the family! Phoebe Frisch-Gebhart, Conference & Hospitality Services Conference Manager, recently welcomed Zephyr-Ansel Reyes Gebhart to her family. Zephyr-Ansel was born on August 17, 2018 at 12:17 PM at 7lbs 2oz and 20”...Dusty Cooper, Sr. Executive Chef, gave birth to Luca on July 31. He was 7lbs 11oz and 20”, and loves to make "who" sounds like an owl.
