Art and art objects (including but not limited to paintings, sculpture and murals) may be displayed temporarily in Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises common areas only as indicated below:
- Under the guidance of the Student Leadership Coordinator, the applicable Community
- Council will review and approve, or return for revisions, student submitted art or art proposals. Once approved, the Council will recommend to the Arts & Culture Committee the location and the display of art. The Arts & Culture Committee will meet monthly to discuss recommendations.
- The Arts & Culture Committee will consult with the Associate Vice Chancellor of HDAE as necessary, and the Student Leadership Coordinator will notify the requestor and the Community Council of the committee’s decision.
- The University will bear no responsibility for art. An Agreement (http://www.ehs.ucsb.edu/files/docs/rm/StudentArtLoanAgrmt.pdf) for display of art and art objects must be signed in advance for all art work displayed.
- Art may not be displayed “for sale.”
- Art may not conflict with the mission of UCSB or HDAE, and must comply with all UCSB and HDAE policies.
- HDAE reserves the right to return or edit art in order to meet previously agreed upon designs, and/or to fit space requirements.
- HDAE may refuse or return for revision any submittals for language, pictures, images, or references to alcohol and other drugs that are unlawful or harmful.
- Physical damage to walls, etc., must be avoided, and student submitted art may not be permanently painted or adhered to walls.
- Residential Operations may be asked to participate in arranging the display.
