UCSB’s First Endeavor into University-owned Apartment Rentals for Staff

The first UCSB staff occupants of the Sierra Madre Apartments have started moving in! The beautiful facility boasts 35 large 2- and 3-bedroom apartments with stainless steel appliances, a dishwasher, AND a full size washer/dryer for each unit. Located adjacent to 650 acres of coastal habitats and walking trails, the setting is as beautiful as the apartments themselves.

In the UCSB Housing tradition, these apartments were designed with sustainability in mind. The complex has achieved LEED Platinum certification, the highest possible rating for sustainable building practices. Some of these features include LED lighting throughout the complex, low flow toilets and water fixtures, dual pane windows and solar preheated water.

With monthly rent set at 10-20% below the market rate, and close proximity to main campus, this will be an excellent living option for UCSB staff and faculty. The many nearby options for shopping, movies, dining, ice skating are an added plus!

Occupancy in the Sierra Madre Apartments will be split 50:50 between faculty and staff, with staff spaces being offered on a lottery basis. The initial lottery is now closed, however staff can contact John Gaffney to inquire about future vacancies.
