The Redesign is Underway!

For the past ten months the HDAE MarCom team has been zooming weekly to plan and design a long overdue redesign for the Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises web presence. The previous version of the site was launched in January 2013 and during that time the division has grown exponentially with the addition of many new units and residences. Many of the departments who have joined HDAE within the last four years came with their own sites, and it was time to review and consolidate how we present ourselves to the world. A few weeks ago, the first of four redesigned sites was launched… the administrative or ‘umbrella’ site of HDAE. This is the smallest of the sites covering a general overview of the division and the many services and programs we offer. Residential Dining has merged with Campus Retail Dining warranting a separate Campus Dining site from Housing that will encompass theirs and their users needs including Campus Catering. This will leave all of our housing information to be displayed on its own site, Campus Housing, which has also grown with the additions of San Joaquin and Sierra Madre Villages. Conference & Hospitality Services rounds out the foursome with an updated look and streamlined access to information to meet their changing needs.

The other driving forces behind the redesign is to bring our look and feel into alignment with the UCSB campus story and to improve compliance with increased accessibility standards. Several years ago the campus visual identity underwent a major facelift in terms of logo, color palette and graphics and all areas were asked to move in this direction to further the brand of UCSB. The four new sites are being built using a campus template that will bring familiarity to users as they navigate the various sites campuswide. We are working with many individuals and departments across HDAE to pull together the massive amount of information we offer and make it equally accessible across devices from smartphone to desktop. Thanks to the team at Ocean O’ Graphics who are our partners in design and coding. Stay tuned!
