Micro-articles about Our Staff & Communities

  • In the Fall issue of CoastLines, the ‪UCSB‬‬ Alumni Association newsletter, there is a great article about First Generation Gauchos. Three of our talented and caring staff members are featured, Brandon Langford and Joshua Hudson, Resident Assistants, and Jeffrey Juarez-Palma, Assistant Resident Director at Santa Cruz Hall. Also mentioned is our new First Generation Living Learning Community in the Santa Catalina Residence Hall. Enjoy!

In the residence halls, 1472 are non-first year students (quite a change from 10 years ago!) The total number of residents also includes 726 family members, 196 of which are children. Our oldest student resident is 63, while our oldest resident is 78. 81 countries are represented in our communities, the top four being China, Mexico, Korea, and India.

  • Summer days at UCSB are magical. This summer a few lucky students brushed elbows with singer/songwriter and UCSB ’97 alum Jack Johnson at De La Guerra. Jack was seen inside “the DLG” (mentioned in his song “Bubble Toes”) and even stopped to take pictures with a few student dining employees and residents
