Micro-Articles about Our Staff & Communities

Starting in July, Mike Smith, Director of Data Services & Business Systems in Administrative & Residential Information Technology, will become one of two co-chairs of the UC Systemwide Business Intelligence Collaboration Group (BICG). The BICG is a UC-wide initiative to enhance business intelligence across the University of California. Members of each campus meet monthly to discuss various topics regarding tools, techniques, administration and a host of business intelligence and data services tools and platforms. They also work to solve common pain points that multiple campuses may be experiencing, discuss ways to leverage the purchasing power of our UC System when procuring vendor solutions and generally how to collaborate more with each other and build off individual campus successes by spreading them out to other sister campuses. Their flagship event, The BICG Summit, is held online each quarter and showcases business intelligence projects and solutions developed at one or more UC Campuses. The BICG Summit is a powerful platform for collaboration and information sharing across the University of California.

UCSB's summer conference season is here! Conference & Hospitality Services does a fantastic job coordinating meeting arrangements and planning events, which includes food, lodging, meeting spaces, marketing, budgets, name badges, and more! These conferences introduce a diverse crowd to our community and help generate additional revenue that provides services for students during the academic year. Summing up Summer 2023:

  • There are 123 total conferences this summer.
  • 236 students have registered for June Temporary Housing. This program is for UCSB students seeking to bridge the period between the end of residence hall or apartment contracts and the start of summer housing. We offer this to make transitioning to a new lease/contract as easy as possible.
  • C&HS and The Club & Guest House have a combined total of 105 student workers that help make the conference program possible!

Of course, it couldn’t be done without the entire HDAE Team’s support. Thank you in advance for an excellent summer conference season!

Distribution & Logistical Services (DLS) staff members help create a successful commencement weekend every year. A lot of work goes into this massive event. DLS staff, including student workers, spent more than two weeks working on Commencement 2023, including setting up close to ten thousand chairs, a stage, and podiums. Thank you for your hard work in helping with this momentous occasion and creating great memories for our Gauchos and their families.
