La canción es vida! Gloria Carreno (left) and Juvel Gonzalez (right) from Housekeeping in Residential Operations joined the band Mariachi Las Olas for a song at the World Music Series noon time performance. The MultiCultural Center and the Ethnomusicology Program in the Department of Music co-present the series. There is a free performance every Wednesday at noon in the UCSB Music Bowl by some of the best world music artists in the Santa Barbara area.
Kudos to Amy Pasko, Senior Data Engineer, Administrative & Residential Information Technology (ARIT). In celebration of Women’s History Month, Amy was recognized for outstanding contributions in IT across the UC system. The UC Women in Technology (UC WIT) representatives and their teams from every UC location nominated a woman for recognition.
Pie for Pi Day! Transportation & Parking Services hosted their annual Pi(e) Day Celebration to commemorate the mathematical marvel π ─ 3.14 ─ and pie! They had nine pie entries this year, and Nestor Covarrubias took home first place with a Cheesecake, while Ashley Hawk's Butterfinger Pie received second place. Third place was a tie between Dano Allen (Coconut Banana Cream Pie) and Laura Hoffman (Snickerdoodle Cream Cheese Apple Pie.) TPS' love for pie is infinite, just like pi!
The International Foodservice Manufacturers Association (IFMA) has recognized Jill Horst, the Executive Director of Campus Dining, with the Silver Plate Award. This award pays tribute to the most outstanding and innovative talents in up to nine segments of foodservice operations. IFMA established these awards to recognize outstanding operators, manufacturers, distributors, and associate partners. This is a significant achievement – congratulations, and way to go Jill!
Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises is a vast organization, housing more than 10,000 students, faculty, staff and family residents and managing multiple businesses with millions of square footage. One of our most valuable assets is our staff, and every year we offer learning and development opportunities for our employees to continue to grow and thrive. This past February 22, we celebrated our talented and caring staff for completing the eight-week in-house extensive Professional Competency Program. Participants learned goal setting, and tools and frameworks for enhanced efficiencies and communication. Partnerships were built, brains were energized, and innovation was fueled!
