Micro-Articles about Our Staff & Communities

Did you know? Santa Barbara City College’s Extended Learning program offers FREE online and in-person professional development courses. Take a look at their Spring 2023 Catalog. You can take a class in Supervisory Skills, Excel 3 (Advanced Microsoft Excel) or Professional Etiquette. The offerings are plentiful and varied. Most classes are between eight to sixteen hours, and when you complete a series of skills courses that are packaged together you can earn a certificate and digital badge. You can use these to share your new knowledge with you employers and on your digital platforms. If you have any questions or need support registering please email Gracie Huerta at ghuerta@ucsb.edu.

HDAE was well-represented at the resumption of the annual UCSB and United Way Bean Bag Toss on February 1. It was great to see people in person and cheer on colleagues for a good cause!

Access to University & Community Housing Services’ Rental Listings is now FREE for UCSB Staff! You can search rental listings such as rooms in private homes, vacant houses and sublets. Use your UCSB NetID and password to log in to the rental listings. As a reminder, UCHS also provides one-on-one assistance for staff and faculty. You may contact them at housinginfo@housing.ucsb.edu or 805-893-4371.

The UCSB Campus Store team continues to excel! They held a Two Day $25 Sale on February 1 and 2. The sale is held a few times a year and is very popular with students and staff — 1,200+ pieces were sold! And here they are showing the love with floating sparkle heart decorations as well as documenting how many HDAE staff donned UCSB gear at the Town Hall Cheer.

Save the date! We are excited to confirm that our keynote speaker for this year’s Deepening Understanding Conference will be Professor Gerardo Aldana. Professor Aldana served as a consultant on the film “Wakanda Forever” in which he also played a small role. His keynote, “Indigeneity, Latinidad and Wakanda Forever,” will highlight the role of native/indigenous communities as well as Latina/o/e/x identities in the construction of Namor and Talokan in the movie. The Conference is on March 28, 29 and 30, and the keynote will be on Wednesday, March 29 at 11am in Corwin Pavilion. Please watch for the registration form in early March. We look forward to seeing you there!

Another festive Town Hall Cheer has come and gone, and we have fantastic photos to help us remember a fun day. See a few below and visit Town Hall Cheer 2022 for more!
