CONGRATULATIONS! Jeremy Guida of University & Community Housing Services has a new family member. Baby Elwood was born on January 7 and mom, dad and grandpa (Randy Bittner — who some of you may remember) are happy and healthy.
The 2021-22 San Miguel Residence Hall stage mural is in the works by a talented Gaucho and UCSB Housing resident. This year’s theme is the environment, which means the hauntingly beautiful whale mural will be replaced. The good news is, the artist, Loni Marineau (in photo on left), is excited for the return of her mural. Loni graduated from UCSB in 2018, married her high school sweetheart, and is teaching AP Environmental Studies in Orange County. The mural will have a new home in her classroom so future environmentalists and potential Gauchos will enjoy it for many years to come.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Santa Barbara hosted their Design Awards Gala on December 2 which honored the achievements of local architects and architecture. The program recognizes design excellence in architecture, restoration/renovation and urban design. Criteria used by the jury included quality of design, resolution of the program idea, sustainable responsibility, innovation, thoughtfulness and technique. We are proud to share that two of our buildings were recognized. San Joaquin Villages received an Honor Award and Portola Dining Commons was recognized with a Merit Award.
The UCSB Campus Store is once again raising money for United Way by holding a "Campus Store Round-up" from February 4 to March 4, 2022. Customers are asked if they would like to 'round up' to the nearest dollar on their Campus Store purchases. In past years, generous customers have donated thousands of dollars to this worthy cause.
