Micro-articles about Our Staff & Communities
HDAE and Student Affairs staff members have added some cheer to students’ experience in our isolation and quarantine housing: Kim Equinoa of Student Affairs put together a gift bag for students who stayed over the holidays, and Sr. Custodian Angelica Villalobos has been creating and leaving beautiful paper flowers when she's cleaning the apartments. Students no doubt have appreciated these special welcoming touches.
CONGRATULATIONS... to the Residential & Community Living Team on a successful and very atypical move-in this past January! We will feature an in-depth article in a future newsletter about this multi-day touchless process. In the meantime, enjoy some photos from The Daily Nexus... to one of our four Faculty-in-Residence, Professor Amit Ahuja, for being a co-winner of India’s most prestigious award for non-fiction for his book “Mobilizing the Marginalized: Ethnic Parties Without Ethnic Movements.” Professor Ahuja shared that he wrote the book in Manzanita Village!... and, last but not least, to the HDAE Wellness Team for coordinating another successful Healthy Holiday Challenge. This year's program was virtual and offered to the entire campus with 107 staff and faculty participating from many different departments. Two people won Fitbits donated by Kaiser, including HDAE Human Resources Business Partner Amy Jacobs, and two people won Target gift cards donated by Anthem.
Past and present HDAE team members are making a difference in the community! Jordan Killebrew, previous Assistant Resident Director for Santa Catalina Residence Hall, and Louis Reynaud, Associate Director of the University Center, have been appointed to Santa Barbara City’s first ever Community Formation Commission. They will be responsible for making recommendations to the City Council as to what model of civilian review commission it should adopt to provide additional oversight and accountability for the city’s Police Department.
Residential Operations Material & Logistics Manager Brad Gray didn't let a global pandemic stop him from coordinating the annual HDAE holiday toy drive for the IV Youth Project. Kudos to all the HDAE elves involved in this meaningful endeavor and thank you to everyone who made contributions.
