Residential Operations took advantage of reduced occupancy and is catching up on critical deferred maintenance needs in vacant buildings, including exterior painting and landscaping at Santa Ynez Apartments. CONGRATULATIONS! As part of his 2020 Professional Development Plan, Paul Kouns of Residential Operations obtained credentials as a Certified Construction Manager through the Construction Management Association of America. The coursework focused on Construction Management, Quality Management, Contract Administration, Cost Management, Risk Management, Time Management and Sustainability. He had to take a test with 175 questions that took four hours to complete! Paul says he is grateful to work for a department that invests in their employees and he looks forward to putting the skills he’s learned into practice on future projects for HDAE… kudos to our HDAE team members for reaching some amazing service milestones at UC Santa Barbara. They were celebrated with a campus-wide video that includes an introduction by Chancellor Yang... for 2021 UCSB ranks #13 of the top 50 green colleges and universities by Princeton Review HDAE is proud to to support UCSB on its way to becoming a sustainable community by implementing earth-friendly practices... Shortly after this article was published, the MarCom Team won 1st place in the Association of College & University Housing Officers - International specialty category for their efforts in bringing beauty and life to the San Joaquin Villages study rooms. Kudos to Eric Zobel, HDAE Graphic Artist, who designed the inviting and relaxing wall graphics and standoffs.

   

       

UCSB Campus Dining was in the news for providing “Gobble Boxes” to families struggling with food insecurity during this holiday season. Campus Dining partnered with Goleta Union School District to provide 1,200 reheatable meals. More to come on this exciting initiative! 

Conference & Hospitality Services continues to plan for the future during these unprecedented times. This year the 2020 UC Systemwide Conference Planner took place on zoom. They typically meet in person, and each campus takes turns hosting; however, this year was definitely unforgettable. They talked about COVID challenges and silver linings, and their planning efforts for a safe return of conferences and events in the future.
