Looking Forward
We are quickly approaching the end of spring quarter and a wave of commencement celebrations. This is an exciting time of year with much to look forward to and to be proud of! Please make sure to take a look at this issue’s HDAE highlights, as we have no less than two team members nominated for a Getman Award, and two Staff Citation of Excellence Award recipients — congratulations everyone!
I would be remiss in not mentioning the recent rise of COVID cases and the highly transmissible Omicron sub-variant. Our Quarantine & Isolation Housing Team has been busy placing COVID positive residence hall residents in spaces set aside for this purpose. We are fortunate to have recently acquired additional Q/I spaces vacated by SBCC students from our partners at Tropicana Student Living. We are grateful for their quick response and support.
Caution is still needed, so please continue to mitigate your risk of exposure to COVID-19 by wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, and washing your hands. As of May 27, 2022 mandatory indoor masking has resumed on campus due to the rise in cases. For more information, please take a look at the Chancellor’s memo dated May 26, 2022: COVID-19 Update: Reinstating Campus Indoor Masking Requirement. Other tools at our disposal to reduce the spread of COVID include getting a second booster, which is now available for certain individuals at least four months after their first booster. In addition, the federal government recently made a third round of at-home COVID tests available. The process to order the tests is very fast and easy.
Thank you for everything you are doing to protect yourselves, your friends and family, and our campus community. I am so grateful for your dedication, flexibility, and perseverance over the past two plus years!
