Congratulations!

Pamela Scott, Residential & Community Living, and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Soriano, Portola Dining Commons, were nominated for a Getman award. In honor of the former UCSB Dean of Student Residents, Margaret T. Getman, the annual Getman award recognizes university staff and faculty that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the general growth and development of students and the quality of student life.

Gabrielle Coulousi and Shantel Dickerson were both selected to receive a Staff Citation of Excellence Award. Gabrielle was recognized for her work in helping to create and manage the Quarantine/Isolation housing program, which has been serving students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since late summer 2020. Gabrielle had to consider students’ academic, mental health, financial, food and other basic needs, while working with multiple campus stakeholders. Shantel was recognized for being a key figure in the coordination and planning of UCSB’s complex multi-day move-in process in 2021. This was the first large move-in since the beginning of the pandemic and probably the most difficult one in history!

Danny Mann, Associate Director in Residential Operations, made two goals in the alumni soccer game during Alumni Weekend, helping his team on their way to victory! 

Jill Horst, Executive Director of Campus Dining, was named to the Board of Trustees for The National Association of College and University Food Services.

Marilyn Villalpando-Ortega, a second-year English and Linguistics major at UCSB and the Director of Community Service for the Alpha Kappa Leaders in Training Class of the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, spearheaded a letter-writing campaign with fellow students for our talented and caring staff members in Residential Operations. The students’ goal was to show our wonderful staff that they are appreciated!
