The 1st Annual IV Kick-off Community Concert
Meet & Greet with Property Providers while enjoying Live Music
The Community Housing Office sponsored the first ever Kick-off Community Concert in IV on October 14. The event was co-sponsored by the IV Recreation and Park District and the Isla Vista Tenants Union. Our vision was to bring the Isla Vista community together and to bring music back to Anisq'oyo Park. Bands playing at house parties can be problematic because of noise ordinances and the amount of people they attract to these students homes, so we thought it would be a great way to draw out the community to a public place and highlight popular IV bands.
Another goal of the event was to redefine the relationship between landlord and tenant, and create a space where tenants can connect with their landlords/managers/owners when they aren't in trouble or have something wrong with their apartment.
We had a great turnout of about 25 management companies giving away free stuff, and meeting and greeting with their tenants. The IVTU was also giving away succulents and free home wares, and we had a free photo booth for students to take "house" photos with their roommates. It was the first IV community concert, and our hope is it will be a quarterly event from here on out!
