CONGRATULATIONS to Kip Bates for completing a successful roundtable discussion at the National Annual Conference of Women in Cybersecurity. He collaborated with Reema Moussa of the USC Gould School of Law on “Cultivating Women as Leaders - The Role of Allyship.” With only 25% representation and retention issues, there is a significant disparity between the prevalence of women and men in the cybersecurity field. Participants were encouraged to discuss their experiences and perspectives on how to instill in their organizations the mission of promoting women in cybersecurity and how it isn’t solely a women’s issue but a priority for everyone in the cybersecurity field.

Residential Operations staff members    Mechanical Room

Residential Operations staff members continue to WOW us with their work! This past December, the last working boiler in Carrillo failed, which would have caused hot water and heating outages in Carrillo Dining Commons and San Rafael Residence Hall. The Maintenance team dropped what they were doing and moved a temporary boiler over to Carrillo and connected it to the hot water system. It was back online in five hours. Shout out to (counterclockwise from right) Dom Gianola, Scott Suttner, Brandon Harrington, Martin Pereda, EJ Langworthy and Kolby Wolfcale (not shown: Keaton Thompson and Steve Federline). Thanks gentlemen for keeping students and staff warm! Another project that required a great deal of work is the repair of a San Miguel elevator. A water pipe broke and flooded the elevator mechanical room. It’s back in operation thanks to Paul Kouns for ushering the project through many hoops to complete, and to the maintenance team for responding to the flood. Below are before and after photos.
