*Editor’s Note: I would be remiss in not sharing a special tribute to Eric Zobel, our recently retired Webmaster and Graphic Artist. Eric and I have worked together for a long time, and I’m going to miss his talent and dedication. He’s had a huge and positive impact on our campus. Eric can design anything from very professional collegiate-type publications and COVID signage, to playful graphics that appeal to our students. With every project he’s worked on, he has always raised the bar and exceeded our customers' expectations. Please take some time to watch this video, a compilation of the projects Eric has worked on.

Eric has played a huge role in the HDAE culture as well. He created the WE CARE and strategic plan illustrations and booklets, taught art and creativity workshops to staff, and designed the HDAE annual reports and our staff newsletters The Compass and its predecessor The Homefront. He has mentored student artists and spearheaded the mural project at the San Miguel stage, which showcases students’ talents and improves the living experience of all of our residents. And it’s not just San Miguel… he’s done projects in Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Nicolas, San Rafael, San Joaquin, the Carrillo laundry room, all of the whimsical wall graphics in the Family Student Housing laundry rooms, and the new little free libraries at West Campus and Storke Apartments. His work has been recognized with multiple design awards from ACUHO-I.

Eric’s love of nature, the environment, and desire to help others learn and grow always shines through. All of our community members have been touched by his creativity. We will miss you Eric!  -Julie Levangie
